THE Mayor of Islington raised England’s flag above Islington Town Hall on Friday to mark St George’s Day.

Councillor Janet Burgess was joined by Colonel Brian Kay, who holds the title of “Sheriff of Islington”.

The country’s patron saint was a soldier in the Crusades and legend has it he killed a dragon and saved a princess. He was ­executed on April 23 in 303ad by the Roman Empire.
