A TEENAGER has been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man.
Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were called to the scene in Tufnell Park Road, Holloway, on Monday evening after reports of a fight. Mohamed Abdi-Noor was rushed to hospital with stab wounds but died shortly after arriving.
When the Tribune attended the scene on Tuesday morning, flowers had already been placed at the police cordon, signalling a community in mourning.
Shopkeepers on the neighbouring Pankhurst Road said Mr Abdi-Noor was a regular customer who came from a “lovely family”, and noted their shock that he had been a victim of such a crime.
The incident took place just outside the Tufnell Park estate, where residents said they were “shocked” by what had happened.
Adam James, a Tufnell Park Estate resident, said: “It’s the sad world we live in that a 21-year-old has died.”
Rebekka Wedell, who moved to Tufnell Park Estate two years ago, said: “It’s a terrible thing and it’s a shock that it’s happened.”
Julie Morgan, who has lived on the estate for 34 years said the incident was “terrifying” and felt huge sympathy for the family of the victim.
Supt Jack May-Robinson, of Islington Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who has lost his life. I can assure local people that we share their concern following this terrible incident and are supporting our colleagues in Specialist Crime as they investigate.”
Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz, leader of Islington Council, said: “I’m shocked and saddened by the tragic news that 21-year-old Mohamed Abdi-Noor has lost his life following a stabbing on Tufnell Park Road.
“My thoughts and condolences – and I’m sure those of everyone in Islington – are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
“A teenager has already been charged with murder; if anyone has any information that could help the investigation, I urge them to get in touch with detectives by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
“We have been working with police to support and reassure the local community since this tragic incident, including by carrying out extra patrols in the area.
“Collaboration is key to preventing knife crime and all kinds of violence, and we continue to work on this critical issue with local police, schools and community organisations such as Arsenal in the Community and Abianda.”
• A 17-year-old boy appeared at Highbury Youth Court on Tuesday charged with murder. Police are still investigating and ask anyone with information about the incident to call 101 quoting CAD 6283/11Dec.
