MURDER squad detectives were this week appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed to death in a Clerkenwell street.

Reece Salmon, 28, was named by the Metropolitan Police this week as the victim found with stab wounds in Lloyd Baker Street last Wednesday. He was taken to hospital where he died the following day.

Flowers and bottles of alcohol were laid outside Gwynne House during a vigil for the father-of-one last Sunday.

His family said they were “utterly devastated” following his shock death.

The Met said that as of last night (Thursday), no arrests had been made but enquiries continued.

In a tribute statement to Mr Salmon, his family said: “We are utterly devastated by this loss. Reece was a loving partner and son, and he leaves behind many friends and loved ones. It is impossible to put our loss into words.”

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young man who has lost his life.

“You can expect to see additional officers in the area providing visible reassurance and working with partners to keep the public safe.

“The victim was found in a residential street, and members of the public may have information of vital importance to our investigation.

“If you can help, please come forward.”

Green councillor Jara Falkenberg represents the Clerkenwell ward where Mr Salmon was fatally stabbed.

“The Clerkenwell councillors were extremely sad to hear of Reece Salmon’s death,” she told the Tribune. “Our thoughts are with his partner, family, friends, and everyone who knew him, who are now having to live with an enormous and very sudden, unexpected loss.

“We know people living around Lloyd Baker Street and across Clerkenwell have been shocked by what happened. We still know very little about the circumstances, and we hope the investigation fully establishes what happened.

“We ask everyone who saw or heard something, or who has CCTV or doorbell footage that might help, to contact the police.”

She added: “We hope the community will come together to support those affected, and that we will all continue to look out for each other.”
