Sixty-eight seconds?
Friday, 14th May 2021
• ON the east side of Highbury Corner there is now a cycle lane for cyclists wishing to turn right into St Paul’s Road.
I am wondering if any other cyclist has experienced unacceptably long waits for the cycle light to turn green there.
I have been in correspondence with Transport for London about it. They say that all their lights are working properly, and that the maximum wait for a cycle there should be 68 seconds.
My experience has been completely different. I timed that light on a number of occasions over the last year or so and my average wait time was around six minutes (it varied between one minute and more than 11 minutes).
The TfL figure of 68 seconds as a maximum is simply unrecognisable. I have seen cyclists give up and cross against the lights. And I have done so myself.
I have told TfL that they will be at least partly responsible if because of this a cyclist is killed or injured there.
