Solidarity! Why this week’s Tribune is written 100 per cent by women
Friday, 19th November 2021

THIS week’s Islington Tribune looks a little different than normal.
For the first time in our history, the entire newspaper has been exclusively written by women.
As the issues around safety, prejudice, misogyny and sexism take a more central place in national debate, and attempts are made to break down entrenched barriers, newspapers should be open to the view that their own industry has issues of representation to reflect on.
The Tribune has had many women on its staff over the years and the landscape is changing, but it has occasionally been dominated by male voices.
That cannot be said of this week’s issue which – in solidarity with those pressing for urgent changes to make women feel safe on the streets again – is authored only by women.
We hope you find the diverse opinion pieces a stirring read.
It’s not a one-stop shop, however. We’ll have more contributions in the weeks to come, all part of our pledge not to simply write about these issues after a tragedy like a murder.
