• I WAS shocked when Labour councillor Diarmaid Ward accused Green councillor Caroline Russell of protecting Sotheby Mews elders for her own party ends.

This hypocritical Labour council bulldozed objections over Sotheby Mews, a lifeboat for elders who have paid their way, while finding monies for publicity-gaining WWI commemoration street plaques.

It defies common sense that anyone could think it a good idea to put elders into a building designed for youth, where noise will be overwhelming.

A noisy environment is agony to anyone with a hearing aid as the noise cannot be filtered to hear individual conversations.

Many former RAF aircraft engineers have hearing aids as noise defenders were not encouraged when they joined the service as teenagers.

Sotheby Mews, its proposed closure delayed for a year, provides elders with health-giving companionship and saves the NHS considerable money.

Use your vote wisely. If you want to show appreciation for the people who defended Britain in WWII, protect their descendants.
