Sounds of summer… drilling, clanging, banging, sawing

Friday, 25th May 2018

• TWO-and-a-half years in and still clanging, banging, sawing, drilling, shovelling at the Islington Square development… from eight in the morning throughout the working day, six-and-a-half days a week.

Summer is here, the garden filled with flowers, sun shining, birds flying and above it all the clanging, drilling, banging and sawing. Impossible to sit outside. Impossible to
use the back rooms of our home.

Meeting with the main developer, American, long hair, embroidered cap, phalanx of lawyers, telling us that the noise will be minimal. We, the residents remain unheard.

In the end will we be tortured each night by trucks delivering to the retail outlets and restaurants, driving through narrow streets to the underground car park.

What is the social gain from this massive development? What did Islington Council agree to, without consultation?

More shopping, consumption, stuff filling landsites, plastic polluting the environment for eternity. More restaurants, coffee shops, delivery chains, delivery bikes, more polluting traffic.

Most immediately we demand answers as to how long this noise is going to continue. What major building site after nearly three years is still deafening residents with concrete pecking, breaking up roads, drilling and angle grinding?

And all this in the heart of a residential area. Why is any mention of compensation laughed away?
