TRIBUTES have poured in this week for Tufnell Park actress Helen McCrory.

The Peaky Blinders and Roadkill star died aged 52, her husband Damian Lewis announced on Friday.

He said in a statement: “I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.”

She had also starred in the Harry Potter movies and co-stars Jason Isaacs and Tom Felton were among many from the film franchise to pay their respects to her.

Meanwhile Rufus Norris, artistic director of the National Theatre where she performed on several occasions, said: “With her incisive wit and ferocious intelligence, she was one of the most charismatic and distinctive performers.”

William Russell, Lord Mayor of the City of London and Mr Lewis’s half-brother, said: “I have many fond memories of her. A huge loss to my family as well as to British acting.”

Ms McCrory had championed the Feed NHS campaign which encouraged High Street restaurants to give food to staff on the Covid frontline. She raised more than £1million in less than a month for the scheme.

She leaves behind her husband and their two children Manon and Gulliver.
