Starbucks could be set to take over The Works
Holloway Road craft shop set to be replaced by coffee giant

The Works is to close
WHILE this newspaper published last Friday saying Starbucks was not set to replace a craft shop in Holloway that closes on Saturday – a phone call may have changed all that.
Despite rumours swirling that the coffee giant is all set to move into 448 Holloway Road, as The Works closes its familiar blue and white shutters for the final time this weekend, the Seattle coffee makers emailed last week to say they would not be taking over.
At the time, a spokesperson said: “We are always looking for new locations and opportunities to bring the Starbucks Experience to customers in the UK, but at this time we have no updates to share about plans for Holloway Road.”
Ambiguous – but why the secrecy?
Following our story saying they were not moving in, they called on Friday to say they had “neither confirmed nor denied they were moving in”.
The Works were less coy about their plans. Last week they confirmed what Holloway shoppers have known for weeks as the branch had large “closing down” signs draped across its windows.
A spokesperson said: “This has been a great location for The Works, but our lease was due to expire soon and sadly we have been unable to agree suitable lease terms to stay.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure and would like to thank customers for shopping at The Works over the years.”
