Stop pimping out Caledonian Park

Friday, 23rd June 2017

• WHY does Islington Council keep shoving things we don’t want down our throats? It started with the Caledonian Park visitor centre, which they will start building in October despite the overwhelming majority of the community opposing it.

Now, we have a two-week-long funfair in the park which we were not warned or consulted about. There is constant music, people shouting, children screaming, an mc encouraging people to be loud on the mic, and loud noises coming from all sorts of games and rides. It’s driving me insane.

Not only didn’t we know this was going to happen, but we weren’t given the chance to object to it. I don’t see how it’s fair on residents and people who enjoy the park but have to leave because of the noise.

The council is selling advertising spaces on the gates of the park. This all seems crazy to me. What is to stop it from boarding all the gates of the park just so it can make money out of it?

I am tired of constantly being forced to accept commercial decisions the council makes that are clearly detrimental to people’s wellbeing and sanity. This is not Thorpe Park, not the Colosseum in need of a 250sq metre visitor centre, and not a concert hall plastered with posters. This is a small park in a community that loves and enjoys it. Stop pimping out Caledonian Park.
