STORM Eunice hit Islington on Friday as people were told to stay indoors.

Many parks and had already taken the precaution of closing, with intrepid dog walkers urged to go back home. Schools were already shut for the half term holidays.

Trees – and cars trapped under trees – were left damaged as the borough said goodbye to some long-standing and well-loved trunks, blown over by the force of the wind.

And the Town Hall had a team doing emergency repairs across its estates as debris, satellite dishes and piping fell from up high.

Across London, the roof of music venue the O2 in Greenwich was ripped off, while other parts of the UK faced even stronger gusts.

Four people were killed across the country and the record wind speed recorded was around 120mph on the Isle of Wight.
