BUBBLES, Santa and shadow puppets: another December day, another glorious Christmas light switch-on.

St Luke’s CofE Primary School choir

This time it was at Whitecross Street in Old Street on Friday, but with a unique twist! For the first time, the performance stage was powered by an electrified refuse truck.

What really lit up the stage though were the choirs from St Luke’s and Prior Weston primary schools, who put a smile on the very, very cold faces in the crowds, while their version of Wham’s Last Christmas got everyone moving.

Chhaya Phipps, 17, who goes to music college in Islington, said: “I had a great time. Oh Holy Night was the one I really enjoyed. That song is quite special to me as it reminds me of my childhood and growing up in church.”
