Take a hard look at the arms trade and pension funds

Friday, 29th October 2021

• THE Tribune’s October 15 report (£10,000 payments for the survivors of abuse scandal) has Islington Council leader Kaya Comer-Schwartz saying: “Abuse of children in Islington‘s care homes was the worst chapter in the council’s history”.

I get that what occurred was a horror story. But, at the risk of seeming callous, I take issue with the claim that that was the worst chapter of Islington’s history.

I say the worst may be now and I refer to the arms trade. The London Borough of Islington has a pension fund. And that fund is invested in many large companies / organisations. Some of those are in the arms trade.

The UK is the second biggest exporter of arms on the planet. See: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54435335.

Arms can kill kids. We sell arms to the Israeli government which kills Palestinian kids. We sell arms to Saudi which kills Yemeni kids. We sell arms to Turkey which kills Kurdish kids.

So, the greatest victims of LBI are those killed by LBI cash. For more, see the website of Campaign Against Arms Trade.
