FOUR teenagers will take to the streets of Islington to showcase what the borough has to offer this summer, as part of a new scheme that saw them crowned ‘Chief Discovery Officers’.

Sidra, 18, Cruz, 14, Tam, 14, and Teayanna, 11, have been tasked with capturing their school holiday adventures on film over the next month.

They were awarded their new titles after winning a competition judged by the council’s communications team as well as council education chief Michelline Safi-Ngongo.

She said: “Every summer, the council directly funds hundreds of activities, courses and opportunities so they are free for our young people. Congratulations to our new Chief Discovery Officers, who will help bring these opportunities alive on video to engage and enthuse their peers — showing the real, brilliant Islington literally through the lens of young people.”

“I applied to the role because I love Islington, and it’s just an environment I’ve been in for a long time where you get to have fun”, said Teayanna.

The CDOs were invited to the mayor’s parlour last Thursday to be congratulated on their appointment.

They were also awarded £250 in shopping vouchers, and will be helped by a communications team to craft their films.
