Telephone boxes are not history yet

David Trillo, of The Islington Society, with one of the phone boxes
• “USING telephone boxes to make phone calls is becoming history”, is it? (‘Horrible tsunami’ of phone boxes planned, June 15). The siting of this article next to the one about moped thieves crossing London to steal phones in Islington might be a warning that history has a way to go.
When I was injured in a mugging after dark in a quiet street no phone was available to dial 999, and I felt lucky that a resident opened the door when I knocked and phoned an ambulance for me. Phones break down, batteries get flat at the wrong moment and not everyone has a mobile even now.
I had to search for the offending kiosk near Angel, despite having walked past it many times. It is totally inconspicuous in the muddle of huts and bus shelters. I thought it looked rather elegant, and was pleased to see that it gives updates about the tube service. Thank you for letting me know that it’s there.
