Antiques Roadshow expert Lars Tharp hunts for treasure at Danish Church's summer bazaar

IF there were any hidden treasures at the Danish Church of Saint Katharine’s summer bazaar on Saturday, they certainly wouldn’t have stayed that way for very long after the arrival of Antiques Roadshow expert Lars Tharp.
The historian and broadcaster joined hundreds of revellers and bargain hunters at the church in Regent’s Park for the summer bazaar, a much-loved celebration of everything that is Danish.
Mr Tharp enjoyed a Danish sing-song before opening the annual bazaar for the second time. He said: “It gives me great pleasure to return to open this event. I know, being Danish you all just want a good deal. I can see the impatience.
“I can tell you, opening an event like this is a real challenge, because you know nobody wants to listen to any of this. There are things here that are absolutely fantastic, and I haven’t been allowed to take my wallet out so you still have an open field.”
Reflecting on an afternoon of exquisite stalls, sandwiches and sunshine, Elin Stone, chairwoman of the Danish Women’s Association, which organised the event, said: “For me, the bazaar is always a very, very special day. My first bazaar was in 1963, and since 1967 I think I have attended almost every single one. It always gives me great pleasure to see all of you, and all the support you give the church.”
