Launch: David John Dade and Cllr Gary Heather

• THE borough’s mayor Cllr Gary Heather was at the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal, ably assisted by 329 Air Cadets and others, in the lead up to Remembrance services to be held on November 12 at Islington Memorial Garden, Spa Green and Manor Gardens.

I have been collecting for 52 years and would like to thank the mayor and all who are supporting this worthwhile charity.

Funds raised goes towards helping our armed forces personnel who are injured, and their families, and also families of those killed in action. Last year, thanks to the generosity of all in Islington who donated, we raised £42,275.52 towards the appeal.
