The answer is proportional representation

• SO the Liberal Democrats are complaining, (One-party state, Tribune, May 14).
In the last council elections Labour had 61 per cent of the vote and in the by-elections Labour got only just under 50 per cent of votes cast.
I don’t remember the Liberal Democrats making much fuss back in 2002 when they had a big majority of councillors on a smaller percentage of votes.
The answer, as I have said before, is proportional representation as used in most elections outside England.
