The bus flat fare is not a lot to pay

• AS an elderly person I have a Freedom Pass.

If you need to travel before 9am it is easy to pay using a debit card and for buses this is just a flat fare for each bus journey, £1.65, not a lot to pay if you really need to travel at that time.

I am surprised if the bus driver didn’t point this out to Elaine (I got to the hospital in time – no thanks to Sadiq Khan, May 5), and allow the lady who spoke to her to pay for her if she was unable to pay herself. I think they need you to tap in for statistical purposes.

Personally I feel that it is a privilege to be able to travel free most of the time. There are many people who are as hard up as I am, people on low wages, unemployed, families with children, etc who have to pay the full amount.

At the end of the day Transport for London has got to raise enough money to keep services running while we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and we all need to make a contribution to this.
