The Whittington Hospital
• ALL hospitals should give some kind of recognition of the contribution the Irish gave to the National Health Service, mainly nurses, cleaners, etc, and some doctors.
Quite a few worked at the Whittington Hospital, in particular nurses. Sadly many of them are now dead. Also the Irish men – the Irish navvies built Britain, building roads, tunnels, motorways, etc.
There should be a permanent statue on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. This would be a thank-you to all those who died very young.
I know the Irish were not invited to Britain but came to work under the common travel agreement.
The Irish also worked as domestic servants and care workers in the homes for old people and disabled people, and in schools. And the Irish built and paid for Catholic schools.
They should be recognised for all that work.
