The dumbing down of a great football club goes on

New artwork set to adorn the Emirates Stadium
• I WONDER if there are more like myself who feel that the proposed “artwork” for the exterior of the Emirates stadium is no such thing, (Red wall: Arsenal stars get first look at new stadium artwork, January 13).
In fact I see it as bog-standard computer-generated graffiti bereft of sensitivity or craftsmanship. I have seen better in a children’s playground.
The so-called “extensive” consultation, in reality, was a few docile yes-men in a pub. I struggle to find any redeeming feature and will have to avert my eyes each time I pass, as the dumbing-down of the once-great Arsenal Football Club continues apace.
We are nothing more now than just another identikit outfit with a robotic manager who just happen to have quite a lot of money.
Also, the images show a gleaming white stadium. In fact it is morbidly grey, even a grey block of flats, and used by the “grateful public” as a dog toilet. Every floor surface is covered in chewing gum.
The shameless abandoning of our “sleeve tradition” a few years ago by the Wenger-Gazidis-Akers triumvirate signalled the end for me.
It was unique to Arsenal and dated back to the great Herbert Chapman who now must, along with Bertie Mee, (is he represented?) be turning in his grave at the vulgarisation of a name that once stood for something special and was widely respected even by opposing supporters.
All gone now, gone forever.
