The fight must be taken to the Tories

• IT’S a safe bet that there isn’t going to be a second referendum about the EU. We’ve already had one and there was a clear result. It’s more than Theresa May and the Tories dare do because they know they would lose the support of most of the people who voted to Leave.

It’s time a lot of the Remainers stopped classing those of us who voted to Leave as thick, racist idiots who hate all foreigners. That’s rubbish. The great majority of people in this country live and work perfectly amicably side by side and will continue to do so in the future.

As for Mrs May being a “strong” leader, is she going to stand up to the developers who are telling local councils how many affordable houses they are prepared to build (after they’ve got planning permission, of course)? As few as possible, is the answer. Developers’ and builders’ profits lie in building luxury accommodation.

She would let all aspects of the NHS be run down through lack of funding, while telling us that “funding is increasing”. The Tories would continue to push for a privileged education for the few, while the rest of the state schools get even larger classes, with inadequate facilities and harassed teachers desperately trying to cope.

Mrs May will never stand up to the Road Haulage Association and insist that more freight must be carried by rail, thereby reducing pollution. Nor will she reduce fares and improve public transport. That would upset the Society of Motor Manufacturers. The fight must be taken to the Tories or we can look forward to another five years of deteriorating living standards.
