The O2 Centre site proposals are impossible

O2 shopping centre site Finchley Road

The 02 shopping centre in Finchley Road

• FURTHER to Tom Foot’s report (‘New neighbourhood’ mapped out for O2 site, March 25), I am writing to say many of our members are deeply concerned and alarmed at the proposals being put forward for that site.

Landsec, the developers, must know that 2,000 homes, or 20, yes 20, towers is a physical impossibility for this site, especially as they are promising all sorts of other goodies such as a “green linear park” and community facilities.

It is a well-tried ploy to start big in order to negotiate with Camden down to the maximum amount of luxury homes they think they can get away with; and as little as possible for the benefit of the community.

Everybody I have spoken to wants to keep Sainsbury’s, the only well-stocked, reasonably priced, superstore in the area. Also Homebase, Waterstones and other shops and facilities in the O2 Centre.

Camden is asking us for our views, so I would urge everyone to send comments in via the link below. Please do so immediately because the consultation closes on April 6. See https://westendlanetofinchleyroad.commonplace.is

Note that this is a pre-planning application consultation, when it is important to try to influence minds before concrete plans are drawn up. So please click on the link now.
