• FURTHER to my August 18 Tribune letter (The mallards & moorhens were there before the work), my dog and I walked alongside the still-closed New River on the morning of August 23.

It was the section from Willowbridge Road to New North Road and it was, of course, hardly surprising to see no sign at all of activity on the site. There was no water in the river channel, and no wildlife, particularly no birds, not even in the trees above.

The official Islington Council notice expressed the “hope that the entire length will reopen in early August”. This was on August 23. ’Nuff said.
