They replaced the lamps in our square – and left them on!

• ON Tuesday August 6 two workmen from Islington Council changed all the lighting in Granville Square. Why?

The old lamps worked perfectly. They came on when it got dark and went off when it got light.

Now our lamp-posts have new lanterns. They were switched on last Tuesday afternoon, but never switched off!

For eight days we have been floodlit: day and night. Why keep our square lit 24/7? How can this be ecologically sound?

Does the council want to waste money on new lanterns- when a quick clean of the old lanterns’ glass would have sufficed?

How much does each new lantern cost? Could someone from the council please actually sort this out?
