They’ve axed half of St Paul’s Road buses

• THE reason the 277 bus no longer serves points west of Dalston Junction during the day is because its lay-over point on the roundabout is no longer available.
Strangely enough, Transport for London has put on a night bus N277, which runs past Dalston Junction along the old route round into Upper Street and Pentonville Road, before turning right and terminating in Baron Street at the Angel.
I did suggest to TfL that the daytime 277 bus route could be extended either along Holloway Road and terminate outside the college in Camden Road. Failing that, it could run along the same route as the new N277 has done since the end of June.
TfL’s excuse is that it cannot afford to pay for the extra drivers and vehicles to do this, in effect cutting bus services along St Paul’s Road from Dalston by 50 per cent and as compensation adding a token extra three no 30 bus journeys westbound during the morning peak and an extra eastbound journey in the afternoon peak. Hardly compensation for a 50 per cent reduction in services.
The other thing that concerns me is the lack of activity regarding the re-routing of traffic at Highbury Corner roundabout. It appears that so far all that has been done is to reduce the size of the roundabout on the three remaining sides by a lane’s width. No wonder it’s taking until at least the end of next year to complete.
