‘This sell-off by stealth should end now’

• IT is outrageous that our GP practices, including my own in Mitchison Road, can be taken over by an American health care conglomerate with patients not being told, let alone consulted, (GP surgeries’ patients put in the hands of US big business, February 19).

But the way this back-door deal was nodded through by the CCG, clinical commissioning group is a disgrace. Approval was given at an online meeting a week before Christmas. The public was excluded.

Papers for the meeting did not reveal that the acquirer was US-owned. It was not mentioned in the meeting.

There was no discussion and not a single question from committee members. The whole matter was dealt with in just seven minutes.

The health secretary has been asked to intervene. He has the powers to do so and should exercise them immediately. This sell-off by stealth should end now.
