This five-year deal for Finsbury Park is hardly value for money

• FIVE more unnecessary years!

Haringey Council had no need to agree a five-year deal for the use of Finsbury Park with anyone and certainly not for less money. It’s hardly value for money, given the rate of inflation, (Five more years of gigs hits wrong note with park users, June 30).

They could have kept their options open, perhaps choose a different promoter or given the park and the rest of us a chance to recover for a year or so.

The fact that they are desperate to avoid some extra scrutiny makes me think that they have something to hide. After five more years of this heavy use I wonder what will be left for us to enjoy.

Islington and Hackney residents don’t even get the chance to throw this council out in an election. In spite of their claims none of us have been properly consulted on this deal, unless you count the insulting and misleading public relations posters that they displayed outside the venue essentially rubbishing and belittling our concerns.

It is time to transfer the management of our Finsbury Park to someone who respects the environment, nature, and those of us who love it.
