MORE than 6,000 households can access £200 worth of supermarket vouchers – in a support package offered by the Town Hall.
The vouchers are aimed at paying for food and essentials, while the money saved can go towards fuel bills, the council said.
Islington’s finance chief Councillor Satnam Gill said: “We know this is an expensive time of year for many people in Islington, who are already hit hard by the financial costs of the pandemic, and face huge financial pressures this winter and spiralling bills for food and other essentials.”
Cllr Gill added: “These £200 supermarket vouchers, and vouchers to help cover food costs during school holidays, will help some of Islington’s households in greatest need this winter.”
The council last week also agreed to cut council tax bills for working age low-income households Residents can call Islington’s helpline – 020 7527 8222 – if they are facing Covid-related financial hardship.
