Threat to excellent walk-in doctors’ service
Friday, 12th October 2018
• THE NHS walk-in service at Ritchie Street is under threat when the contract expires in March 2019, (Future of Angel walk-in doctors’ service in doubt, October 5). In my experience this is an excellent service, which is not available at short notice from the local GP.
This is a dedicated and successful use of resources which, if devolved to local surgeries, may not always be used for the provision of urgent appointments.
Any proposal from the Clinical Commissioning Group needs to be critically examined to ensure it is serving the interests of the community and not its own, possibly cost-cutting agenda. If the only alternative is A&E this closure will not be efficient in the long term.
Councillor Janet Burgess states that the facility is not accessible to the whole borough and therefore not much used by people in Archway. I admit to not being a statistical sample, but I am an Archway resident and have used the facility on many occasions, travelling on public transport.
