Time to enforce 20mph speed limit
Friday, 26th May 2017
• I WAS astonished by Councillor Claudia Webbe’s letter (Pollution: a clean start, May 12).
A great deal of council tax-payers’ money was spent on road markings, signposts and banners telling us that we were now in a 20mph zone. However, absolutely nothing has been done to ensure the speed restrictions are implemented.
The council tells me that this is the job of the police, but why then don’t they tell the police to do their duty? Transport for London could help by telling bus drivers that 20mph does not mean 30mph. The restriction in Haringey is supposed to be the same, but going down Muswell Hill on a bus is as terrifying as ever.
We need the whole of London to be a properly-enforced 20mph area so that everyone gets the message.
