Dangerous parking in the centre at Wilmington Square

• THE photograph, above, taken on the morning of October 24, shows the clearly “dangerous” parking in the centre at Wilmington Square main road.

Every pavement and open space in our area is abused by inconsiderate and selfish people who clearly just drop these hire bikes anywhere, completely ignoring drivers and pedestrians forced to avoid them.

There should be a strict limit of designated spaces and number of hire cycles that should be allowed to park locally, exactly as there are for cars.

And the cycle hire companies who are responsible should be fined if their vehicles are found strewn all over the roads and pavements.

The permitted reduction in pavement widths by Islington planning department “selling licences” to restaurants, public houses, and so on, has got completely out of control and the enforced reduction of pedestrian space is dangerous and forcing pedestrians to walk in the road to avoid crowds gathered outside, whether disabled or mobile (trying to keep healthy).

The law should to be changed so all cycles have a “registered number plate” and cycle hire companies should be fined for their cycles breaking laws by using the same “recognition” cameras, already in place, exactly as for cars.

The total lack of enforcement to control these issues will not go away unless some action is taken asap.
