Town dig in to do the double
Coach praises squad’s ‘desire, consistency and courage’

AN accomplished squad of wannabe professional footballers certainly caught the eye on the big stage this season when they won a double in the London Youth Premier League.
Kentish Town FC’s joint Under-13s/14s (pictured) team proved a formidable force in the competition, which prides itself in bridging the gap between grassroots football and the academy system. Town were crowned champions in the Gold League in emphatic style after winning nine and drawing one of their 10 fixtures.
The players then ramped up their celebrations even further by beating rivals New Generation FC in the final of the Super Cup.
Michael McLoughlin lit up the showpiece when he rifled a screamer into the top corner to give the north Londoners a 1-0 lead at the break. New Generation upped the ante in the second half as they went in search of an equaliser. But they couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Callum Bow, who produced a series of fine saves. Taylor Peart’s composed finish gave Town some much-needed breathing space, before McLoughlin wrapped up a 3-0 win with his second of the game.
Head coach Richard Amoah said: “The boys had a very difficult start to the season, but they showed desire, consistency and courage to turn up every Sunday and grind out results under all circumstances. They worked hard all season and got what they deserved!”
