Town Hall weighs up hardship fund support
Working families ‘facing large rent rises’ may be offered extra support

THE Town Hall has proposed a £1m fund to support working families on low incomes who are finding it increasingly difficult to “make ends meet”.
It was unveiled this week as part of the council’s budget proposals for the coming year.
According to council documents, the money will go towards supporting “working households, with low incomes, who are facing large rent rises”.
Payments from the “one-off” Hardship Fund will be distributed in addition to the resident support schemes already in place to help both council tenants and those in the private rental sector “who are facing large rent rises”.
The council says “the fund will provide financial support to those with a household income that only just lifts them out of most benefit entitlement and other financial support, but very soon simply won’t be enough to make ends meet”.
If the policy is approved, the council has said it will “start accepting applications from those in need before the end of March”.
