Trashing the planter was pointless
Friday, 18th September 2020
• THE flowers in the planter were trashed some time last week.
Following that a return visit was made and the planter stolen. If this was the work of a thoughtless person this is sad enough.
If the planter was vandalised because it had a “We (green heart) People Friendly Streets” message, then the person who did this really has to think again.
Of course, the gardener involved will be upset that the fruits of their hard work have been damaged permanently, but it will only make them more determined to support the concept of people-friendly streets.
So while giving the vandal(s) some crazed satisfaction by destroying plants (which can’t vote or change people’s minds), they have doubled the enthusiasm of the people who support people-friendly streets.
If people oppose the work of the council or the way they are doing it, they should talk to their councillors; they are the people who can change policy. Destroying plants and stealing planters doesn’t achieve anything.
