Tribute to Richard Kelly, a special man

Friday, 25th January 2019

• WITH a very heavy heart, I would like to inform Tribune readers of the sad passing of Richard Kelly, who lived on Popham 1 estate, just a few short weeks after the passing of his beloved wife.

Richard was a true gentleman, always having time to help anyone at any time. He cared for his wife for many years during her illnesses, despite not being in the peak of health himself, but he never complained.

Whenever you saw Richard in the street you immediately smiled, as a chat with him would brighten your day. For many years Richard ran the Pensioners Bingo Club from Popham Community Hall.

He always felt, like many others and myself, that Islington does not provide enough activities for the elderly on our side of the ward. This will be a great loss to many residents’ lives now.

During my time as chair of our tenants’ and residents’ association, Richard was the treasurer, and never missed a penny in his accounts.

Richard, you will leave a gaping hole in our lives, but you are now at peace with Jacky, your wife. Peace and love forever to Richard, a very special man.
