FLOWERS have been laid in tribute to the 15-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed in Highbury Fields last week.

Deshaun Tuitt, from Hackney, was stabbed to death in Highbury Fields last Thursday evening.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday, while a 34-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both are being held by police.

Officers were called to the park just before 9pm, where they found Deshaun suffering from knife injuries. Paramedics attempted to save his life but he died in hospital that night.

A post-mortem examination gave Deshaun’s cause of death as a stab wound, shock and haemorrhage.

A huge police cordon stretching around Highbury Fields and Highbury Place was established, with some areas of the park remaining out of bounds over the weekend.

His family have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers, police said.

Despite the arrests made this week, officers are still keen to talk to anyone with information or footage of the incident.

“We are working hard to piece together a timeline of events that led to Deshaun’s murder and I urge anyone who saw something, or captured footage, to get in touch without delay,” said Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke.

Deshaun lived in the Pembury Estate near Hackney Downs in east London. On Wednesday, Hackney Council’s safety chief Councillor Susan Fajana-Thomas said she was “devastated to hear of the tragic death of Deshaun”.

Police were stationed at Highbury Fields yesterday evening (Thursday) conducting a witness appeal.

Cllr Fajana-Thomas said Deshaun was “someone well-known to many of us at the council,” adding: “We feel this sense of loss and anger ourselves.”

Of the eight teenagers murdered in London this year, Deshaun is the youngest.

As the police tape was removed this week, flowers were laid on the corner of Calabria Place overlooking the park.

“Long live Huntz!” one message read. “Sleep tight beautiful, you will be missed. The way you left wasn’t right, you were taken from us at such a young age but we all love and miss you.”

“Though we didn’t know you – your life mattered,” another read. “You matter. You were a child who never got the chance to grow up.

“We should never forget that. And we should never forget our responsibility to all of you children. So very sorry – rest in peace child.”
