Jeremy Corbyn meets chef Clodagh McKenna and the event organisers

ISLINGTON North MP Jeremy Corbyn joined TV chef Clodagh McKenna as she hosted a “sustainable cooking masterclass” at a charity in Hillrise.

Ms McKenna’s visit to Hanley Crouch Community Association comes as part of a broader national “Big Lunch” campaign to bring people together through food.

After the cooking workshop, which saw Ms McKenna make a meal from leftover ingredients in her own fridge and cupboards, members of the community and Big Lunch organisers sat down to share the meal.

Ms McKenna said: “It’s been wonderful joining everyone at Hanley Crouch Community Association and seeing first-hand the impact it has. The project is all about bringing people together to share food, skills, and resources while also having fun joining in with activities that boost wellbeing through the power of connection.”

Food waste charity FareShare, which has been donating food to the centre, supported the workshop. It distributes surplus food to thousands of charities and community groups across the UK in an effort to tackle the environmental impact of food waste.

Kristopher Gibbon-Walsh, chief operating officer at FareShare, said: “Across the country, FareShare supports 8,500 local groups that are powering good, from school and lunch clubs to refuges and homeless shelters. These groups bring people together to share meals, enjoy a sense of community and access a range of vital support services.”
