A TEENAGER who stabbed a man in Angel has been sentenced to two years’ detention.

The attack happened on February 15 at around 1.15am, when the 27-year-old victim was walking along Pentonville Road and came across the 17-year-old near the doorway of a fast-food restaurant. After an exchange of words the teenager pulled out a large combat knife and stabbed the man in the groin, severing his leg artery.

The victim has had to undergo four operations and is said to have sustained life-changing injuries, narrowly avoiding losing his leg.

A youth from the Holloway area was arrested on suspicion of assault the day after, resulting in him being charged on February 17.

Detective Constable Steffan Evans said: “It was only the rapid intervention of paramedics that stopped this being a murder investigation.”

The teenager pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court on June 22 to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
