UK or EU? Let the people vote

• IT looks as if England’s exit from the European Union is being delayed by a difference of opinion on what to do about the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

As the Morning Star editorial comment put it on December 12: “For as long as Northern Ireland remains part of the United Kingdom, the withdrawal agreement’s protocol on Ireland effectively binds Britain to the EU single market and customs union also.”

If Britain does not want to be bound to the EU single market and customs union, all it has got to do is give the voters of Northern Ireland a choice, via a referendum, of whether the province should remain in the United Kingdom or remain in the European Union.

How does the Labour Party view giving Northern Ireland voters a choice in a matter which so directly affects them?
