WHILE Labour activists are traipsing up and down the streets of Junction ward, one councillor is canvassing for a rather different, and slightly bigger, election.

Valerie Bossman-Quarshie is helping out on Kamala Harris’s campaign ahead of next week’s US elections.

“The fact that you’ve come across the pond to campaign, they’re like ‘snap, crackle and pop’,” she said, adding that it was “super important” that Kamala Harris wins in areas like Oxford, Pennsylvania, where voters in the swing state could end up deciding the entire election on Tuesday.

“I know everyone says this but democracy is on the line. If Trump gets in, people that I know across the globe, we’re going to be harmed,” she said.

She added that activists in Pennsylvania are “not taking anyone for granted”.

But canvassing in the US is very different from back home, the Bunhill councillor said, adding that you must be more “cautious” on the doorstep.

“People say they’re voting Trump,” she said. “You can’t get into any arguments. You just leave it because you don’t want to get into any beef.”
