FOUR fire engines and 25 firefighters were called to a blaze that engulfed a home in Archway.

The fire on Tuesday evening damaged flats in the basement and on the ground floor of the terraced house in Dresden Road. A man was rescued from the building by first responders wearing breathing apparatus. He was later treated by paramedics on the scene.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “The brigade received the first of two calls reporting the fire at 19:36, and control officers mobilised crews from Holloway, Kentish Town and Hornsey to the scene. Firefighters were able to bring the incident under control by 21:15.”

It is understood that the fire was an accident, and caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials.

The LFB have issued a warning to smokers, reminding them to smoke outside where possible and to use deep, heavy ashtrays which cannot tip over.
