A MAN was rushed to hospital after a fire broke out destroying half his flat.
Six separate crews extinguished the fire on the first floor at Elizabeth Avenue in Canonbury Tuesday evening.
The man was rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “If you’re a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it. If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home, but also cost you your life.”
The brigade urged people to be safe when smoking inside, adding: “Never smoke in bed, and avoid smoking on armchairs and sofas – especially if you think you might fall asleep.”
