Waterlow Park is not a place for barbecues

War of the BBQ Cartoon

• JUST in the last few weeks my regular walks in beautiful Waterlow Park in Highgate have been ruined by the awful smells of barbecue fuel.

Waterlow Park is my sanctuary. I go there to escape the highly polluted area I live in down the hill, and, as I suffer from asthma, it is a joy to sit there, breathe in fresher air, and enjoy a beautiful vista.

This has now been blighted by the stench of strong smoke from barbecues. There were three barbecues when I visited over the Easter weekend. This completely ruined the atmosphere.

Along with the rubbish and smells I just feel Waterlow is completely the wrong place to have barbecues.

Perhaps there could be a dedicated area in a much larger place, that these families could all go to. Then they could all smoke each other out, while the rest of us can carry on enjoying the beautiful Waterlow Park without the stinking barbecues?

Please Islington Council and Camden Council, make this happen. And, no, in case you’re wondering I don’t have a garden.
