We don’t want a Mini-Manhattan here

• ISLINGTON Council is currently consulting on a transport strategy as well as major Holloway Road developments:
Islington Local Plan Proposed Submission (Regulation 19) at https://www.islington.gov.uk/consultations/islington-local-plan-proposed-submission-regulation-19.
This goes directly against https://www.islington.gov.uk/consultations/transport-strategy.
1) Clustered around Seven Sisters and Camden Road, Islington Council suggests major (probably decades) building works.
2) Also, the height of some proposed buildings is worrying, creating a Mini-Manhattan, that encroaches on conservation areas…
NH1 – 15 storeys (currently three).
NH2 – 15 storeys (currently three).
NH10 – 10 storeys (currently two?).
NH12 – 12 storeys (currently two?).
NH13 – increase tower to a massive 76 metres (increase of 20).
Tall buildings destroy views, they create very bad drafts and wind tunnels across the roads. These developments do nothing for the conservation area, in fact, they set a precedent for other tall buildings to entirely destroy it.
3) There is little mention of mitigation to environment and no assessment of overall environmental impact.
4) The plans are misguided and purely directed at dismantling any historic views.
No assessment has been made of the detrimental influx of traffic and people, again this is contrary to Islington having declared a “climate emergency” and clearly shows that Islington planning has no intention at all on going green. This is very worrying indeed, and the consultation period is only short.
Cllr Tricia Clarke responded to a reader’s letter claiming Extinction Rebellion had the wrong target. But the above raises serious questions. I have contacted the council but heard nothing.
