Phone snatchers’ paradise? The square in Archway
• PHONE and laptop snatches, general anti-social behaviour and aggressive begging in and around Archway’s new gyratory system have increased to an unacceptable level (Square revamp has fuelled moped phone snatches, October 20).
It proves that during the so-called consultation over the alterations they were only listening to the bicycle brigade. Included in this were the Mayor of London and Transport for London.
As well as crime figures for this area, I would like police to publish accident statistics to see if there have been any improvements, of which I doubt, or only an increase. If police and the council are sure there has been a decrease, then why not publish the figures?
Islington police’s answer is to put up another poster – “Yep that’ll do it” – to frighten thieves off. Let’s go even further and put some cardboard cut-out police officers in and around Archway or perhaps an inflatable police car.
The Mayor of London and police commanders keep banging on about policing with consent. Well, as a taxpayer I give them consent to start doing their job by getting these people off our streets.
