This bus is an essential mode of travel

• WE are aghast at the idea of the removal of the 271 bus from Moorgate to Highgate.
This route has existed for more than 100 years, the population of Islington has soared and you plan to remove it.
What is the rationale? How can it be justified?
We have lived in Canonbury for 30 years and, for many, this bus is an essential mode of travel.
It unites two major hospitals, Moorfields and the Whittington, also Highbury Corner Victoria line, the Overground, and the shopping centre of the Nag’s Head, numerous schools and NHS clinics.
We do not have a car, are elderly, and depend on the 271 to access health venues.
We have already lost the invaluable 277 that linked us with Canary Wharf, the No 4 bus is truncated at Ludgate Circus and the No 30 bus our, only bus link with Hackney, has had its frequency reduced.
I have reduced mobility and exhortations that we take public transport, walk or cycle make life stressful and difficult. Maintaining a bus route would be a step in the right direction.
