CAMPAIGNERS need to set aside sectarian differences and unite in a working-class fightback against the energy bills crisis, Mick Lynch told a mass rally in King’s Cross Station.
Thousands of people came out around midday on Saturday to hear union chiefs liven the crowd with warnings to politicians of all political stripes: “We are going to put you under manners.

RMT chief Mr Lynch said: “We are part of a progressive movement. Whatever we had in the past, our differences, whether it’s an ideology or where we are from, we have to put that to one side. We have to tell any politician, whether Tory, Labour, Liberal, we are going to put you under manners. We will not accept cuts or austerity, no matter who’s delivering it. Whether it’s in Westminster, Cardiff, Edinburgh or the cities, or the parish councils for that matter.
“Let’s take heart. Hold hands together. Put your arms around each other. We are workers, we refuse to be divided.
“We refuse to be poor anymore. We are going to fight for our class. We are going to create a mass movement of working people. We are going to win.”
Mr Lynch urged protesters to encourage colleagues to join a union to build the mass movement to slash energy bills, boost pay, end food poverty, build event homes and tax the rich.

The RMT union, based in Somers Town, had marched to King’s Cross down Euston Road with a banner poking fun at a Sky News interview about how picket lines work.
Eddie Dempsey, also from the RMT, said: “People are worried about the bills and staying warm this winter. This is because we are in a country where profits have risen 273 per cent since 2019. Where CEO pay has gone north of a 200 per cent rise. Where private companies are taking profits out of public services to the tune of hundreds of millions of pounds. Where energy companies are taking billions off us and getting £150billion from the government. Where there’s tax cuts for the rich and belt-tightening for the pure: we say enough is enough.”
He added: “They tell us we can’t have a pay rise, we can’t have a rent cap, we can’t have affordable energy – because that’s what the market says.
“Well the market ain’t the Wizard of Oz. The market is not going to keep our children fed or the older people warm this winter. We need to bring about a working class movement on the streets and picket lines.”
CWU general secretary Dave Ward and Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn also spoke at the rally.
