We should have had better consultation on changing bus routes
Friday, 18th February 2022
• TWO weeks ago I learnt for the first time that a bus route on which I rely, the No 21 from Newington Green, may soon no longer serve my area.
I learnt this only because a protest group had posted a notice on the bus stop on one of the sections of the route to be axed.
When I looked into this I found that Transport for London had started a “consultation” in November that had run over Christmas and was now closed.
I’d had my chance to voice my objections, but missed it. I also discovered, by the by, that routes 143, 263 and 271 in our area were affected.
I understand that from time to time needs change and bus routes may need to change also. I similarly understand the enormous financial pressure that years of Tory austerity have placed on all our cherished public services.
But I fail to understand why TfL did not make sure that people knew about both the changes proposed and the consultation, at the very least by posting notices on bus stops in time to make their views heard.
