JUST 8ft at its widest point, the “Wee House” in Clerkenwell might be Islington’s skinniest property – and it’s now up for sale for the very first time.

Squashed between a jewellery shop and a chair showroom off Clerkenwell Road, the slender bolthole – once a sweet shop, and later a base for bike couriers – is five storeys with a leafy roof terrace and two bedrooms.

It has gone on the market for £815,000.

Architect Joe Wright was commissioned by the owner, Ewan Armstrong, to redesign the property when he bought it in 2006.

In an interview on the architect’s website, Mr Armstrong said: “Home is really, really important to me, I talk to the house, I thank it for keeping me safe and secure. If I accidentally knock a wall I even apologise to it!”

Mr Armstrong added that the Wee House was unlikely to be his last place and, so it appears, he is now ready to move on. Situated on a narrow, triangular plot, every floor tapers to a point at the back.

According to the property listing, natural light is cleverly channeled into the basement bedroom with glass bricks and a mirrored wall.
